A lavishly detailed fantasy world inspired by the fairy tales and eerie folklore of the British Isles
BUFFALO, NY (July 12 2023) – Gavin Norman, founder of Necrotic Gnome (Old-School Essentials RPG), has teamed up with Exalted Funeral Press to launch his new tabletop roleplaying game and lavishly detailed fantasy setting, Dolmenwood. Inspired by traditional fairy tales, Dolmenwood blends the dark and whimsical, the wondrous and weird.

As a native of England, Norman grew up surrounded by ruined castles, haunted manors, standing stones, twisted woods, and weird folklore. Combined with a love of 20th century fairy tales (e.g. Lord Dunsany, Neil Gaiman, Susanna Clarke), these influences form the lifeblood of the tricksome world of Dolmenwood.
Built on a streamlined, customized version of the Old-School Essentials game system, Dolmenwood is easy to learn and is packed with creepy fairy tale flavor. The game will be launched as a set of three core books, plus a range of adventures, maps, minis, and extras—ready for years of adventure.

“It’s in the trees… It’s coming!”
This setting is pitch perfect from all I have read so far. I can’t wait to get these books. This will probably be the first game I’ll GM since returning to roleplaying 2 years ago.
I used to play B/X as a kid and I love that this game has that simplicity. But personally I’m glad it doesn’t include the baked-in ‘setting elements’ of B/X (e.g. halflings, nordic dwarfs) or of early AD&D (e.g. barbarians). It’s saturated with Dolmenwood ethos all the way through.
Gavin, have you read Company of Liars by Karen Maitland? A nice fit in some respects

Big fan of the art & design style. Thanks for the long preview pdf. It give us a good ideas what we are buying. A campaign book of 480 pages is great! So much content to explore and use. Can’t wait to read that.
