Necrotic Gnome

Development Diary

Here’s a peek behind the curtain at what the Necrotic Gnome team has been working on! From new zines and adventures to infernal horrors, development is moving full steam ahead:

Dungeons of the Undermoon

The long-awaited OSE starter set is imminent! All three books are now complete and in layout. Beginner playtest groups will receive the adventure (plus pregenerated characters) in September—thanks again to everyone who signed up. We can also reveal a bit of lore: the adventure unfolds in the same world glimpsed in The Hole in the Oak and The Incandescent Grottoes. Prepare to explore the Plains of Fnaan, an outpost of the Prismic Imperium! The set is on track to be finished in early 2026.

Devils & Demons

Writing is almost finished as we finalise fiendish magic items to join the creatures, cults, and other demonic terrors. Another playtest package will soon be sent to signed-up groups. This as-yet-unnamed tome of darkness is predicted to be completed sometime in Q2 2026.

Quick Delves

  • #2: The Grotesques’ Grotto by Amelia Luke is finishing illustration and will also be released at PAXU / Black Friday.
  • #3: Against the Horselord by Brad Kerr has wrapped playtesting and is in editing, with a release expected in early 2026

Carcass Crawler #6

The next issue of the official OSE zine is nearly complete! Writing and layout are done, playtesting is wrapped, and illustrations are in progress. Look out for its debut at PAX Unplugged in November, followed by release on Exalted Funeral during the Black Friday sale.

Mr. Unpronounceable Kickstarter (with OSE Adventure)

The surreal and grotesque worlds of Tim Molloy are back in print with the Mr. Unpronounceable Omnibus, a massive 644-page collection of comics, both classic and new, that inspired The Painted Wastelands.

The Kickstarter also features The Quest Unpronounceable, a fully illustrated OSE-compatible adventure by John Liebbe (Strange Tales of the Painted Wastelands). Designed to integrate directly with The Painted Wastelands, this weird quest takes players into the dreaded Crimson Manse, with exploration guided by collectible trading cards drawn as doors open to reveal new horrors.

If you’ve enjoyed The Painted Wastelands, check out Mr. Unpronounceable for more beautifully illustrated psychedelic fantasy goodness.
