A magic-eating monster encounter to confound arcane adventurers.
Dweomerworm
These small (6″) transdimensional parasites burrow through parallel worlds, seeking magical energy. Although permanently invisible, they can be damaged by magical weapons or spells by individuals who can perceive them.

-
Attach: On a successful attack, the dweomerworm attaches to the victim. The victim must henceforth save vs spells for each spell they attempt to cast (inc. from a magical device such as a wand, ring, etc.) or have it consumed by the dweomerworm instead. An individual carrying dweomerworms has a 50% chance of resisting spells cast at them or dispelling ongoing magical effects with which they come into contact.
-
Magical hunger: Dweomerworms attack the highest-level spellcaster present. When attached, they always move to attack whoever most recently cast a spell, regardless of caster level.
-
Purge: When no spellcasting occurs for 8 hours, they depart, burrowing deeper into realms unseen. A dispel magic or anti-magic shell destroys them.
